While neighborhoods are on lockdown and people are advised to self-quarantine, some residents are more vulnerable than others. Even those good neighbors that are interested in helping the elderly around them or those at-risk friends can encounter some challenges. Social distancing rules are strict, but a woman from Colorado was able to find a way around them. She used her dog to help her neighbor.

Karen Eveleth lives in Manitou Springs and has a Golden Retriever named Sunny. They have been neighbors for more than a decade with Renee Hellman. Hellman has health issues and often relies on oxygen. She is self-quarantining for her own health and can’t leave her residence even for essentials like groceries.

Eveleth is also trying to avoid putting herself at risk, which is how she came up with the idea to send Sunny over to pick up a grocery list from Renee, do the shopping, and send over Sunny again with the bags.

Sunny continues to make trips going back and forth between the houses to help as needed. Renee was delighted that they were able to work around the social distancing rules in such a clever manner.

Sunny has helped Renee in many ways than just bringing her food. According to Renee, the dog makes her days more bearable. It makes her feel good because she can communicate with the dog.

Aside from helping neighbors, Sunny is also known for helping out his owner on a daily basis. Sunny retrieves the mail regularly and also picks up trash as they go on walks together. Karen Eveleth was hoping that her story would bring a smile to people’s faces and also mentioned that anyone can make a small gesture that can be a big help.
